Anyone who knows me will know that Christmas is my favourite time of year. Christmas has many special qualities – it has the best jumpers, the best food, the best hot drinks, and there’s presents to give and receive. One of my favourite parts is the spirit of goodwill amongst us all. It motivates people to help each other in an extra special way. This can make all the difference to people going through the hardest moments of their life.
Hi, my name’s Fraser. I was born in Edinburgh, raised here, and at the age of 12 I ended up in the hospital after a run in with a white Ford Transit van. No sympathy required, please, that’s not what this is about. I was in a coma over Christmas. Who I’m really sympathetic for is my parents and brother, because they had to deal with all that while being awake.
There was so much help offered at the time. Friends, neighbours and family were doing all they could to help out and even 20 years later I still feel warmth from it.
That’s why this year, I have decided to give it my everything for at least a day. On Sunday the 15th of December, I will be doing a walking tour with all the proceeds going to Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People. This will enable them to continue a lot of the work they do trying to lift the spirits of the kids who are stuck in there at this time of year. This will help families know their kids are getting the best care and attention during an incredibly stressful time.
So I’d like you to please join me if you can on the 15th of December on the Royal Mile at the top of Old Assembly Close. I will have the pink umbrella and hopefully a crowd of charity givers with me, ready to give a walking tour like no other, a walking tour that will make Christmas that little bit better for sick kids and their families.
