This is an LGBTQ free walking tour of Edinburgh focusing on LGBTQ history from the battle of legalisation to the modern issues faced by the community in the present day. A trip through the heart of Scotland’s capital to find out how LGBT people carved out a life in a hostile climate, past many important sites in the fight for liberation. This tour covers several queer individuals with fascinating stories, including prominent historical figures.
This matters now more than ever when the forces of reaction are working to make our community smaller and more isolated. Open to both members of the LGBTQ community as well as allies who are keen to show support. You pay nothing to join the tour and at the end you pay what seems a fair price. To assist with valuable work in the LGBTQ community, part of the proceeds will go to LGBT Health and Wellbeing (recognised as a charity by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, no. SC034216)
In the interests of inclusivity, this tour is primarily flat to ease the time of those with mobility issues. Though it is in central Edinburgh and is loud for those with sensory problems.
This tour does cover some deeply negative topics that have affected the gay community, including HIV, police violence, homophobic prejudice, and JK Rowling. Guests are advised to be aware that these topics will come up so they are prepared.
Organisations seeking to run one of these tours for their staff are welcome on the pay what you think it’s worth tours in groups of up to 7 members, but might be better served on a privately organised tour. This way, the time slot can be more flexible for your needs. To book privately, message on WhatsApp, starting your message with details of where you found it.
